Our America 250 celebration and Summer Reading theme aligned to provide us this unique glimpse into the American spirit of innovation! Burpee’s Historic Breakthrough seed collection features nine iconic “firsts” that transformed American farms and gardens and still stand the test of time.

As part of our Summer Reading Program this year (Plant a Seed, Read!), we planted a garden to grow this historic seed collection! Seven of the nine seeds have grown successfully – stop by the East side of the library and see these plants in person.

Below are the plants that are growing in our garden and information about the breakthrough in seed technology they represent.

We hope you enjoy exploring our American history from this unique perspective!

If you are interested in taking some produce home, please come and chat with us at the library.
