November 11-December 4: We are honored to bring the “TESTIFY: Americana from Slavery to Today” to Pine Island as part of SELCO’s Library Legacy Special Programming. This impactful exhibit of artifacts from the Diane and Alan Page Collection was originally presented at the Hennepin County Library in 2018. Following the overwhelmingly positive response from the public, the exhibit has returned in 2023 with a renewed call to action and a wider reach. We are proud to be sharing this photo gallery exhibit with our friends & neighbors during open hours at the library!
November 15 @ 6:30pm at the United Methodist Church: In conjunction with this exhibit, Nancy Vaillancourt, a southern-Minnesota historian & librarian, is presenting “Minnesota’s Hooded History: The KKK in 1920s Minnesota.” This hour-long program explores the roots and role of the Ku Klux Klan within the state’s past, as well as what may have attracted followers in the post-war, post-pandemic depression of the decade. This event is open to all who are interested in the history of organized prejudice, nationalism and nativism within our area. For any questions about this event, please contact the library.
