Used Cell Phone Drive
Now through April 22, you can drop off your used cell phones and other small handheld electronic devices here at the library. Any devices donated will be recycled as part of a drive sponsored by Pine Island Public School’s Roots and Shoots club.
Cell phones contain a mineral called Coltan. The mining of Coltan in the Congo is threatening the habitats of the gorillas. Forests are being cut down and the apes are being hunted for food. By recycling retired electronics we can cut down the demand of Coltan for future electronics. Electronics will be donated to the Como Zoo to support their great ape conservation efforts. The goal of this drive is to collect 500 phones and other small, handheld electronic devices.
