On Monday, OverDrive (the company supplies that Van Horn Public Library and most other libraries with free e-books for checkout and download) announced that a major publisher, Penguin Group, has withdrawn permission to loan their new titles through libraries. Titles affected by this decision are all new titles for all platforms (Nook, Kindle, iPad, Sony, etc). Penguin titles that have already been made available for download through OverDrive will continue to be accessible.
For more information about Penguin Group’s announcement and what it means, we encourage you to visit SELCO’s (our regional library system) website at http://www.selco.info. On the front page, you will find many blog entries explaining Penguin’s decision and its implications.
If you have questions about OverDrive, e-readers, or e-books in general, feel free to contact us via phone (356-8558) or e-mail (firstname.lastname@example.org).
