Annual Book and Yard Sale

Saturday, April 28 from 9 am to 3 pm

We’ll once again be having a book sale during the City Wide Garage Sale. Come check out the wide variety of books, magazines, CDs, audiobooks, VHSs and DVDs.

This year, we’ll also be having a yard sale. We’ve been doing some spring cleaning here at the library and want to get rid of some items we’re no longer using. We have file cabinets, bulletin boards, flower pots, magazine racks, and much MUCH MORE!

Come find some new treasures and help support the Library!

Publisher Withdraws E-books from OverDrive

On Monday, OverDrive (the company supplies that Van Horn Public Library and most other libraries with free e-books for checkout and download) announced that a major publisher, Penguin Group, has withdrawn permission to loan their new titles through libraries. Titles affected by this decision are all new titles for all platforms (Nook, Kindle, iPad, Sony, etc). Penguin titles that have already been made available for download through OverDrive will continue to be accessible.

For more information about Penguin Group’s announcement and what it means, we encourage you to visit SELCO’s (our regional library system) website at On the front page, you will find many blog entries explaining Penguin’s decision and its implications.
